Book Review: Plus One is a Lucky Number

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really liked this book. It was fun and easy to read with great characters.

Sophie, an unassuming engineer, is a bridesmaid in her friend’s wedding. The invitation is for plus one but Sophie doesn’t have anyone to bring. Her friend, James, spies the invitation and sets his friend, Adam, up to go with Sophie as her plus one.

There are some unexpected occurrences that take place at the wedding that Sophie didn’t prepare Adam for but he continued to act like her boyfriend. They grow very comfortable with one another and their relationship becomes real.

A happily ever after story that I really enjoyed. πŸ™‚

Cold Front!

It has been a long, hot summer here. Granted, it hasn’t been as hot as it can be but it just seems never ending now that we’re in the middle of September and I really don’t want a 96 degree birthday in October.

Yesterday, I believe the cold front arrived. It was cool when we headed out to walk.

sunrise

The clouds looked cool. Sort of like fire.

And I took one of the coolest photos ever of The Price Tower.

Price Tower - Bartlesville

This morning, it’s 54 degrees. It was forecast to be 45 but I’ll take it. The cold front arrived and it’s a little bit cooler. Not quite fall but we’re getting there. πŸ™‚

Book Review: The Nazi Hunters: How a Band of Survivors and a Young Spy Agency Chased Down the World’s Most Notorious Nazi

The Nazi Hunters: How a Team of Spies and Survivors Captured the World's Most Notorious NaziThe Nazi Hunters: How a Team of Spies and Survivors Captured the World’s Most Notorious Nazi by Neal Bascomb
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a very interesting book. I’ve read a lot of books about the Holocaust but never about the capture of Adolph Eichmann and was looking forward to reading about it.

This is a true story about the capture of Adolf Eichmann, the head of operations for the Nazis’ Final Solution and one of the most notorious Nazis.

I was on the edge of my seat as I read how the team of Israeli’s planned to capture Eichmann and carried out their plan to a successful conclusion. I enjoyed the photos and other exhibits shown of the events in the book.

If you are interested in this topic or want to learn more about it, I know you will find this book as interesting as I did.

Book Review: Dangerous Curves Ahead

Dangerous Curves Ahead (Perfect Fit, #1)Dangerous Curves Ahead by Sugar Jamison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really liked this book. It was fun and I was cheering for Ellis who was doing life her way.

Educated as a lawyer, Ellis puts that aside to open a store for hard to fit women. As a plus sized girl, she is fully aware how hard it is to look cute when you aren’t a traditional size. She meets Mike, again, and falls in love with him which she also hadn’t planned.

I loved the characters in this book. I wanted to be Ellis’s friend and her parents were terrific, funny and quirky.

Two thumbs up for Dangerous Curves Ahead! πŸ™‚

She connect with a guy who has made a bet with his best friend that he can date a girl just to have a fling and not think about her becoming his wife and being with her forever.

Book Review: Carissima

CarissimaCarissima by Rosanna Chiofalo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really loved this book. Pia Santore dreamed of going to New York with her sister to open a magazine. She would be the writer and her sister would do the layout and photos. But her sister died. After taking a couple of years off, Pia finally gets an internship at a New York magazine. She stays with her aunt who owns a bakery. At the same time, silver screen star Francesca Donata ends up at a house down the street. Pia makes it her goal to interview the star who has been in seclusion for many years.

In the course of doing her interviews, Pia meets and falls in love, then has her heart broken, only to follow Francesca to Italy where she falls in love with another man.

This is a great story with wonderful characters. I wanted it to keep going! πŸ™‚

Book Review: Buck: A Memoir

Awesome, awesome book. I could not put it down. When I read a book this good, I know my review will pale in comparison to the work but I try anyway.

Follow Malo through the streets of Philadelphia as his family falls apart and he succumbs to life on the streets. But, more importantly, cheer for him as he finds his way and becomes a writer.

Terrific book, I highly recommend. πŸ™‚

Book Reviews: The Heiress Effect

The Heiress Effect (Brothers Sinister, #2)The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. Historical novels are not at the top of my list usually but this one was terrific. I loved the character of Jane. She was so her own dog. I loved her spunk and how she knew her mind. I loved the love stories between Jane and Oliver and Emily and Anjan.

Miss Jane Fairfield is an unmarried young woman with a large dowry and no family. She and her sister are living with their uncle whom Jane doesn’t trust. She tries to keep everyone away by her choices of garish clothing. She wants to be able to stay unmarried and be with her sister until her sister is old enough to be on her own. In the process, she falls for Oliver and in the end, she gets to continue being herself.

Great book. I highly recommend it! πŸ™‚

Lock Me Up!

I just can’t thank my RealtorΒ enough for leaving the lock box on my house and giving me the information on how to put the keys into it and therefore to get them out of it.

lock

I’m kind of bad at locking myself out of the house, especially when David is gone. I have keys I wear around my neck at all times to try and prevent my best friend, John the Locksmith from visiting.

keys

Except for today. I went out without keys, without a phone and the door was locked. If not for the lock box, I don’t know what I would have done.

Of course, there was also the time when I got locked INTO my house and I had to lower a rope out the window for my friend, J,Β Β to tie a screwdriver to so I could try and get out. I still had to be freed by John the Locksmith but that was a whole different story.

I think I need to buy my own lock box in case Lindsey decides she needs hers back. πŸ™‚
