Rock Show!

Monday we took the glambaby to see her first rock show – Sugar Free All Stars!

I’ve been twitter friends with @SFAS for a long time and got to see them the first time a couple of years ago when the glambaby was only a couple of months old. I couldn’t wait for her to be old enough to go to the show and when I found out they were playing at the Hardesty Library this week, I was beyond excited.

The Sugar Free All Stars are music, dancing and flat out fun!

Before the show started, the glambaby wanted to be on the stage. Well of course she did. 😉 When they finally started playing, she was very interested.

sfas3

And very interested in watching the other little kids dancing and jumping around. But when they had us marching, she only tapped her toe. It was like she had gotten shy.

sfas2

Eventually, I picked her up and danced around with her until it seemed like she had fallen asleep at which point I handed her off to Pop Pop. But he said she wasn’t sleeping.

She put her sunglasses on and was observing. It was a really funny reaction but he said she enjoyed the show.

sfas4

Now that we’ve been once, I hope that when we go the next time, she’ll just get into it like the other kids. And me. 🙂

If you get a chance to see the Sugar Free All Stars do not let it pass! You must go and have a blast. Like a big explosion. 🙂

We’re Not Moving!

So after nine months, and suggestions around the world, we have learned that we are not moving!

As you may know, we moved into our house in Tulsa in October. And we have still unpacked very few boxes in all that time. Why? Because shortly after that, David entered discussions about a new position. Of course, I didn’t know this and decided that now that we had moved, I really needed to figure out what to do with my life.

boxes

After having moved and enjoyed the moving process, I thought being a Realtor would be fun but my Realtor (who is one of the very best in the state, probably in world!) is a hard working woman. I think that to be an awesome Realtor, you need to be completely dedicated and I just wasn’t sure that I wouldn’t want to travel with David if a Fiji, Malaysia, etc. opportunity came up. So, I thought that maybe staging houses would be fun.

My friend, Lisa, is a home stager in Oklahoma City and she told me about a workshop she puts on that is three hours long. She said it would give me an inexpensive idea of what staging is and if it’s what I really want to do so I signed up for the workshop.

The class began at 9 a.m. By 10:30, a.m. I knew this is what I wanted to do. I could “see” the things she was talking about and thought it would be a lot of fun for me.

At 1:09 p.m. David called.

“We’re moving,” he said.

“Where?” I asked.

“Overseas”.

“Oh”.

Wow. I knew I wanted to flip a house some day but I didn’t think it was going to be THIS house.

They told him we’d be going to one of four regions: Northeast Asia, Middle East Asia, Sub Sahara Africa or the Mediterranean.

Given his experience, we were sure we were going to the Middle East or Africa. Until a few weeks later when they told us we were going to Madrid. Spain? Really? Okay, cool. We visited Balboa, Spain back in 2011 and it was an awesome trip in a fabu country and I could see living there. It’s not a far trip, only around 7 hours from Chicago, and certainly more appealing to anyone who would want to visit us than Riyadh.

madrid

So we wrapped our heads around the fact we were going to Madrid.

The first thing I thought of is, who do I follow on twitter from Madrid? No one. Amazing. My main goal on twitter is to have friends all around the world so I can have someone to share coffee with no matter where we travel.

At the time, my friend Gini was preparing to release her book Spin Sucks and I’d been selected as an ambassador to help her promote it.

There is a group of 100 of us and we hang out in facebook. It was here that I realized that Corina was in Madrid! I private messaged her and told her we were moving to Madrid and she said that it would be nice to meet over coffee. Yay! All of a sudden I was happier about going to Madrid.

Then we learned that another division was interested in having David work with them. They wanted to make a North American position for him but if that didn’t work, we’d be going to Riyadh.

Ha! It’s all back to Saudi.

I didn’t want to get overly excited about the possibility of staying here. I mean, with a new house and fabu glambaby close by, I just didn’t want to jinx it. I figured if I got too excited about staying, I’d end up in the middle of a Saudi desert in my custom abaya and 140 degree temperatures.

So we waited. And the boxes remained packed. And the popcorn remained on the ceilings. We waited.

I didn’t really tell too many people because we had planned to move to Saudi in 2011 and some really fabu friends gave me an awesome going away party. And then we didn’t go. They were all so great and understanding when we learned we weren’t moving after all but I felt stupid. So I mostly kept this one to myself.

goingaway

I’m glad I did!

We finally learned that we get to stay in Tulsa! David will be working from here! We were sitting in a restaurant when we learned the news and I’m sure the people there thought I was crazy as I happy danced in my chair.

tulsa

I’m sort of sad we won’t be going to Madrid because it truly does look like an awesome place. But I do know that I’ll visit there one day. And we’ll have coffee then, Corina, okay? 🙂

But I’m so happy to be staying here. Close to Geoff, Nikki and the glambaby. In this house that we have so many plans for turning into a home.

Now to unpack those boxes…

Book Review: Death In Perspective

Death in Perspective (A Cherry Tucker Mystery, #4)Death in Perspective by Larissa Reinhart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Such a FUN book! This is the fourth book in the Cherry Tucker Mystery series. I’ve not read the previous three books but I didn’t feel like I’d been left behind, a really great thing for series books. I also didn’t feel like there was too much back story given, something else I appreciated.

Cherry Tucker, artist, is hired by the drama teacher at Peerless Day Academy to help with the scenery for his upcoming theater production. It doesn’t take too long for him to tell her that he knows she can also help him find out who is sending him threatening text messages.

Soon, a secretary at the school winds up dead, a suspected suicide. But Cherry thinks that might not be the case. Then another secretary dies, and a teacher and Cherry finds herself conked on the head and headed that way herself.

With the help of Luke, a sheriff’s deputy she is trying to deny her feelings for, she ends up figuring out who’s behind the texts and subsequent murders.

I really liked this book and I definitely plan to go back and read the previous three! 🙂

Oh, Wine!

I really love wine. I love a crisp, chilled Pinot Grigio on a hot summer day. I love a dark, rich Malbec in the winter. I love the way it tastes. I love the nice little shift out of focus towards relaxation.

But wine doesn’t like me. 🙁

<whine>

For the past couple of years, it’s really been a choice for me between a delicious glass of wine and an equally delicious night of uninterrupted sleep.

While I am able to fall asleep quite nicely, after a glass or two of wine, I’m wide awake around 2:00 a.m. with all the other insomniacs on twitter.

Apparently, I’m not alone in this. A study showed that while wine has sleep inducing properties, the alcohol interferes with your REM sleep so you don’t sleep as restfully as you do without it.

malbec

So, even knowing all of this, I sometimes give in and drink wine. And, when I’m up in the middle of the night, I realize what a truly bad decision it was.

Just when I think I’m an adult. Ha!

Anyway, does this happen to you? Have you ever thought about your sleeplessness and connected it to the wine you had to drink?

Book Review: LOOT

LootLoot by Jude Watson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was such a FUN book! LOOT is a kids book that’s loaded with intrigue, excitement and a really good story.

Marsh watches his father, a jewel thief, fall from a roof in Amsterdam and die. He’s 13 and alone in the world as far as he knows but he’s been along with his dad his whole life and knows to follow the clues he left behind.

In the process, he finds out he has a twin sister, Jules, who he’s been separated from since they were small kids to try and keep the prophecy of their dying together from happening.

Jules and Marsh are sent to a group home where they meet Darius and Izzy. They all break out of the home and go on a huge adventure to steal back the 7 moonstones that Marsh & Jules’s dad stole many years ago and break the curse.

This is a fun, clever book with great characters. I give it two thumbs up! 🙂

Book Review: I Am The Mission

I Am the Mission (The Unknown Assassin, #2)I Am the Mission by Allen Zadoff
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Part of me must be a 15 year old boy because I really like these books. This is the second in the series and I liked it even better than the first.

Zach is known as Daniel in this book. He is sent on a mission and then seemingly ignored by The Program until the very end. Dropped off at a recruitment meeting for Camp Liberty, Daniel is supposed to kill the leader of the kids but he’s not supposed to go into the camp itself. When he realizes he can’t complete the mission without going into the camp, he goes in. Once he achieves the mission, he realizes that it only sets off a larger plot that he must then stop.

This book is full of intrigue and excitement. You think he isn’t going to make it out alive and, yet, he does.

I can’t wait to read the next in this series and I highly recommend it.

Book Review: The Summer Wind

The Summer WindThe Summer Wind by Mary Alice Monroe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book which is the second book in a series. I didn’t read the first book, although I did check it out from the library but had to return it before I could finish.

This book is about three sisters who have the same father. They come from very different backgrounds other than that but their grandmother invites them to her house, where they used to come as children, for one last summer.

After the summer, Mamaw plans to sell the family home. She wants the girls to remember that they were sisters and the fun they had together while they were growing up.

It’s an eventful summer and the girls do draw closer. The story is wonderful and I plan to read the next book and go back and see what I missed in the first. 🙂

Book Review: The Quick

The QuickThe Quick by Lauren Owen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well, I loved this book. 🙂 When I got to the end of the first part, I realized it was going to be about vampires.

No where in the information I read about the book did I see the word vampire and mostly through the book, you never see the word vampire. If I had seen it prior to reading,I sincerely doubt I would have chosen this book and I’m glad I didn’t because it was that good!

This is a long book. I love getting totally wrapped up in a story like this one which takes place mostly in London where there is a large population of the undead.

Charlotte’s brother, James, is turned into a vampire unwillingly. She finds out, finds him and takes him away to their childhood home and then begins the process of trying to find a cure for him.

This story is amazing and you will find yourself on the edge of your chair at some points in it.

I highly recommend this book, me a non vampire book reader. 🙂

Book Review: The Approval Fix

The Approval Fix: How to Break Free from People PleasingThe Approval Fix: How to Break Free from People Pleasing by Joyce Meyer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a great book. I adore Joyce Meyer and was excited to be able to review this book for Netgalley.

I was 41 years old when I realized I didn’t care if people liked me or not. That’s kind of coming late to the game and I admire those who are able to be confident in themselves and not needing the approval of others in their young lives.

I honestly thought I had gotten past the need to please poeple but apparently there are little fragments left. I had a situation that I felt I need to be involved in so they didn’t think badly of me. Then I picked this book up to finish it and the truth hit me in the face: I do NOT have to please them, I need to please God first and then myself. It helped me make some important decisions.

If you have ever struggled with people pleasing this book is for you. Joyce’s style is real and honest and very understandable. 🙂

Book Review: Jasmine and Maddie

Jasmine and MaddieJasmine and Maddie by Christine Pakkala
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a cute book about two eighth grade girls who come from very different backgrounds but find they really have a lot in common after all.

Jasmine moves to Clover with her mom after her dad dies. Although they could stay with her uncle in the next town over, Jasmine’s mom wants to be independent. In order to do that, they have to live in the trailer park and mom has to work two jobs. Jasmine puts up a wall around herself so that no one sees the real her.

Maddie comes from the picture perfect family but as the middle child, she feels like she doesn’t have any special place in the world. When she doesn’t make the soccer team along with her best friend, Kate, she feels like she has no friends at all.

Because they share some classes, Maddie and Jasmine who would be unlikely friends, find out that they are more alike than they are different.

This was a book I really enjoyed reading and I highly recommend it. 🙂
